Consent and Pleasure: "The Intimacy Experiment" by Rosie Danan

  • Lehrhaus 425 Washington Street Somerville, MA 02143 USA (map)

The Intimacy Experiment by Rosie Danan tells the story of a hot young rabbi who connects with a sex worker and former porn star at a conference for educators. He's looking for a way to reinvigorate adult ed and increase membership at his first congregational pulpit; she wants to bring honesty and frankness into sex education. The unlikely duo contrive a seven-session series to cover the gamut of meeting someone to date, to how to end things and survive a breakup. Themes of the book include vulnerability, acceptance, trauma recovery, self-care, and differentiation. During this session participants can expect a lively discussion about dating, slut- shaming, navigating controversial continuing education topics, and how the Jewish tradition incorporates the values of consent and mutual pleasure in intimate relationships.
