Spooky Secrets of the Jewish Afterlife

  • Lehrhaus 425 Washington Street Somerville, MA 02143 USA (map)

Are you curious about Jewish hell (yes, there is one!)? Ever wonder why Jews were once buried with a spoon? Or who the angels are that welcome the soul after death?

From ghost stories to mystical midrash, Jewish folklore is full of spine-tingling tales about what happens after we die. Just in time for Halloween, this session offers a tour of the afterlife—Jewish style.

Eliana Jacobowitz serves as the rabbi of Congregation B’nai Brith in Somerville. She studied law and visual art/fashion design in Israel. She holds a Masters degree in History of the Middle Ages from BU, as well as Masters degree in Jewish Studies from Hebrew College, where she was ordained in 2010. In her teaching, she focuses on Jewish mysticism, the intersection of Judaism and the arts, and Holocaust education. When not rabbi-ing, She makes tallitot and other fabric Judaica that she sells on her Etsy shop, reads, and cuddles with her cat, Shunra.
