Sticks & Spies & Shelach Lecha: Weekly Torah with Moishe House

  • Lehrhaus 425 Washington Street Somerville, MA 02143 USA (map)

Parshat Shelach Lecha includes two difficult tales of the Wilderness Generation. The twelve spies who were sent to scout out Canaan - ten of whom describe the task of conquering the land as impossible; and the case of Stick Gatherer, a man executed by the community for violating the laws of Shabbat. These stories have much to offer us about communal responsibility, the Biblical and rabbinic understandings of faith, and more. We will explore these questions through the biblical text, commentaries, and modern interpretations. No previous text learning experience is required, all sources will be available in both English and the original.

In partnership with Moishe House - Kendall Square. Moishe House's Mission is to provide vibrant Jewish community, learning and leadership for young adults in their 20s and early 30s by supporting them as they create and actively engage in meaningful Jewish experiences for themselves and their peers.
