Torah of Beyonce

  • Lehrhaus 425 Washington Street Somerville, MA 02143 USA (map)

The Torah of Beyoncé asks: what happens when we treat Queen Bey like a commentator on Torah, and Torah like liner notes to Lemonade and Renaissance? We’ll dive into her music, visuals, and performances alongside Jewish text to unpack themes of liberation, survival, power, and desire. As Beyoncé commands, “you won’t break my soul”, we’ll trace resilience through both psalms and pop, exile and empowerment. Expect side-by-side readings of scripture and song, midrash and music videos, with space to argue, laugh, and be moved. No prerequisites required—just curiosity, some chutzpah, and a willingness to see both Torah and Beyoncé in a new light.

Emilia Diamant is, among other things, a certified Beyhive member. She has seen the Queen eight times live, most recently twice during the Cowboy Carter tour. She’s got the ambition of Dangerously in Love, the politics of Lemonade, the freedom of Renaissance, and the grit of I Am… Sasha Fierce. A proud Scorpio with a gift for turning vulnerability into power, she teaches, organizes, and dreams with a soundtrack that always includes a bass drop. Emilia is the friend who will hype you like she’s on stage at Coachella, the colleague who will run your meeting like a world tour, and the date who knows exactly when to throw down a Partition-level wink. In other words: she’s not just surviving, she’s serving.
